What is the Hydrogen Engine Alliance, and why was it created?

The Hydrogen Engine Alliance is a North American initiative dedicated to advancing hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines (H2-ICEs) as a future solution for transportation. It was created to foster collaboration across industries, drive technological innovation, and educate stakeholders on hydrogen’s role in building a low-carbon mobility system. The Alliance bridges the gap between research, development, and real-world implementation to enable the hydrogen economy to flourish.

What benefits do members of the Hydrogen Engine Alliance receive?

Members gain access to bi-annual meetings focused on hydrogen technology advancements, market trends, and regulatory developments. They also benefit from networking opportunities with leaders across the automotive, energy, and research sectors, as well as exclusive insights into emerging technologies and strategies for advancing hydrogen adoption.

For more information or to become a member, please visit our Membership page.

Why are hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines (ICEs) important?

H2-ICEs offer a near-zero carbon alternative to traditional fuels, leveraging proven engine technologies while supporting the growth of hydrogen fueling infrastructure. This makes them a practical solution for diverse applications, especially in heavy-duty transportation and industrial sectors, complementing other hydrogen technologies like fuel cells.

How does the Hydrogen Engine Alliance advance hydrogen adoption in North America?

The Alliance promotes H2-ICEs as a key component of future transportation systems, connects stakeholders to share research and technical knowledge, and educates both industry and the public on the benefits of hydrogen-based solutions. By fostering collaboration across sectors, the Alliance helps accelerate innovation and build the foundation for widespread hydrogen adoption.
